Questions & Answers
Q: I can not get your software to perform a simple schedule. No matter what I do, it doesn't keep the shift parameters. I want it to show me the same 3 shifts over a period of 7 days, and it instead gives me start and end times of each shift so there is not continuation of shifts. It makes it impossible for me to even try to use the software for other shift variations. the help file isn't very helpful, it doesn't give me any help on trying to make a shift differential.
A: Set the shift times you want by inputting a shift start date and time and duration (blue cells and if require yellow cells). The default setting is for continuous shifts so if you set the first shift date time and duration (blue cells) then next shift times will be automatically set to follow on. If required you can also manually set the values for the following shifts (yellow cells), you can even manually input a start date/time the same as the end date time of the preceding shift to make it continuous. I am not sure what you mean by "..I want it to show me the same 3 shifts over a period of 7 days" but if you are trying to set up 3 shifts a day for 7 days then you need 21 shifts (7*3). So if you are starting with a clean reset roster (click Reset Roster) use Add Shift to add 16 shifts (5 are initially set up), and if you want them continuous simply input the first shift date time and duration (blue cells). You can then add any staff and shift requirements.

Q: I am in the Party rental business which includes the rental of tents and other equipment. I am having a problem with scheduling and delivery times. Can this queuing model software assist me with deliveries, setups, collections and costing using standards that already exist in my company.
A: The Queuing Model calculates the optimum number of customer service points (staff) to minimize costs for your business. Queuing models are used in situations where a there is a queue for service including, counter staff, service staff, call response staff or maintenance staff. Depending upon your structure this may or may not be applicable. You can download and give it a try to see if it provides any value/insight. At a minimum it might help you to consider/quantify the cost of customer waiting time (customer dissatisfaction) and staff trade off's associated with this.

Q: Average waiting time per customer is defined as: This is the Average time each customer waits. It is displayed as a decimal value. I entered 17 in the Average customer arrival rate field and 10 in the service rate capacity per service pt field. The calculated average waiting time per customer value is 0.02. What does this actually mean. Is this 2 seconds, 2 minutes?
A: Look in the cell next to it it says Hours, Minutes etc. It is what ever you set as the basis of the arrival rate. If the set the Arrival rate as 50 customers per Hour then the average waiting time per customer is in hours. It shows you what you selected in cell f9.
