Questions & Answers
Q: I am having difficulty installing SiteMap XML Software on my local server. Have uploaded it, and tried using it, when i click generate it just refreshes the page and doesn't return the sitemap. I have retransferred in ASCII mode, and chmodded to 777 and 755 to see if this makes any difference. To no avail. I wish to run it automatically but am just getting it working initially. Your help would be appreciated as help docs on this seem to be quite sparse.
A: It seems your sever is not running the php code. Does your server support php? For information on php and how to check if it is available on your server try the Test Code at https://bizpep.com/phptest.html as outlined in the Help file section Running SiteMap XML on your Server. If php is running it is possible it is an superseded version. SiteMap XML requires php version 4.1.0 or later. The other possibility is that if you used a html editor in any way (ie to any edit or upload) the file the php code may have been corrupted. In which case try re uploading. As outlined in the Help file all you need do is upload the file just like a standard web page, you do not need to set permissions or anything else.

A: As long as php runs on your server there should be nothing to setup. Have you tried running the online version from our server at https://bizpep.com/sitemapxml/ If you tell me a little more about what you are doing and what happens I maybe able to assist further.

Q: I have been having problems using Sitemap XML to successfully parse my international site. I have discovered that adding to the 'Exclude URLs with' field solves my problem ... unless it is blocked I get the following error in my browser: Unrecognised entity: ÃÆÃÆ If you can let me know if this is a problem with Sitemap XML or with Googles DTD it would really be appreciated. I will be able to let Google know if the problem is at their end.
A: The problem is mostly likely the encoding. SiteMap XML uses UTF-8 encoding as required by Google. This may not be compatible with some international characters used on your site. You may be able to find further details and possible solutions related to this issue at the Google Sitemaps Groups page http://groups.google.com/group/google-sitemaps .
