Questions & Answers
Q: Created a static site map and uploaded to my server. Seems to be fine except the following appears at the top of the site map:"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." Shall I just live with that or does Google require style information associated?
A: This is only a browser message and simply indicates the xml document is displayed without formatting. This is the way it is required for google.

Q: Last week I uploaded Google site maps, but today found errors. I then purchased SiteMap XML Software, but errors are still showing. What do I do now?
A: If the errors you refer to are from google in your Google SiteMap Account then you need to rectify what ever it is they say is the error. If the sitemap you submitted displays correctly n your browser and is in the correct format then it any problems will be with your account set up or your site itself.

Q: I've been using your google site map generator (online version) and recently only the xml option is not being rejected by google. The php (dynamic) sitemaps keeps getting "error" messages. This has been true for all the websites I've been working with. Any news on this?
A: We currently have dynamic sitemaps (sitemap.php) running on a number of our sites and ther are no google issues, they are fine. If you have a problem on several sites then you need to identify the common factor ie possibly the server host? or some change in coding? or ....? but google has no problem with the dynamic sitemap... Try viewing the generated sitemaps in your browser and/or recreate them in static mode to see what is going on. Remeber if you are using dynamic code it must registered ie the code was built with registered software? If not you will need to rebuild with registered software.

Q: How can I check which URL's the sitemap renders to google? I compare this with Rage Sitemap Automator which allows you to view/exclude all Url's rendered. In this case Rage's xml file shows 60URLs and SitemapXML shows only 15. (site in question runs a CMS)
A: The urls included in the site map are determined by the settings used, only urls that match the Include URLs with pattern will be included. You can see what urls are included by viewing the generated sitemap either in the textarea for a static sitemap or by calling the sitemap code url for a dynamic sitemap. It is best to run as a static site map first to verify your settings.

Q: I was able to create and successfully submit a site map using your product twice. Then I made changes to the site and created another site map. Now Google is telling me You have specified ....com as the preferred domain for this site. Apparently it needs to have www. in front for it to work properly. Now I get this message "Sitemap not allowed" and Google isn't seeing my URLs. I have another website. I specified this one using www. and now I can't get Google to recognize this one. It just gives me the message "You have no URLs in your site map." Even thought I looked at the code and the URLs are defiantly there.
A: It sounds like you are having difficulty with your Google Webmaster account settings. The urls in you site map must be the same ie www or no www as stated in your account. If you use www in your sitemap Start Url then it will be applied to all urls in the sitemap. If your site maps are displaying as xml with the correct urls in your browser then the problem is most likely with your google account. If you continue to have difficulty try the very helpful webmaster support forum.
