Questions & Answers
Q: Is there a place to enter the fixed assets my client is also selling with his business? The way I understand your software, is that it only values the earnings of the business, not the assets you are selling? Is that correct?
A: Asset inputs are classed as Business Assets with their associate life span which are depreciated, property assets at market value, and other. These inputs are on the Input sheet under Valuation Data. The Valuation Data section of Help includes details https://bizpep.com/businessvaluation.html . The input used depends on what the asset is. If the fixed assets are part of the business and not property they should be included as Business Assets. If not related to the business ie the business is fully functional without it could be treated as completely separate and its market value simply added to the business valuation. If it is included as a component of the valuation it will impact the business valuation based on the required rate of return. Replacement Value of Business Assets Input the replacement value of physical business assets. Exclude property. Consider vehicles, plant and equipment. This forms a component of the total business investment. Life of Assets (years) Input the average life of the assets. The Replacement Value of Business Assets will be divided by the Life of Assets to provide an indication of annual asset depreciation expense. This will be used in determining the owners return from the business. Market Value of Property Input the estimated market value of property owned by the business. Property values are considered stable over the forecast period and no depreciation is allowed for. This forms a component of the total business investment. Other Investment in Business This is the calculated value of any other investment made in the business. It consists of operating capital and goodwill. This forms a component of the total business investment. This amount will be adjusted in-line with your Valuation Analysis.

Q: I need to modify the valuation spreadsheet to better reflect our current situation - specifically with labelling / comments etc, but I am unable to. It says I have to unprotect the sheet but its password protected?
A: All of the blue shaded cell contents can be changed. This includes the labels on the Input sheet and all blue shaded cells elsewhere which are then carried through to all other sheets. As some of these include hyperlinks it is usually easier to tab into the cell than clicking it (as clicking takes you to the hyperlink). This allows you to refine descriptions to suit. If you want to completely modify to a specific layout / format you can create your own input workbook (ie new workbook) and build your own input interface sheet and simply link your inputs from this workbook to the corresponding input in the valuation workbook ie goto the valuation input cell and type = and then click the required cell in your own workbook input sheet. The same approach (in reverse) can be used to customise the outputs if needed.

Q: I would like to learn more. What does the subscription give you? It seems that the valuation is free as it is just a spreadsheet, am I wrong? You provide valuation service, and financial analysis services? Anything else? Do business owners primarily use this? or do advisors as well?
A: Subscription fully enables the analysis software and allows use on multiple devices by the individual licensed email address holder for the 1 year duration of the license. In evaluation mode without a license some valuation inputs are locked. Business Valuation allows individuals or consultants to perform their own business valuation, it is an xlsx file developed with Microsoft Excel and will run on current versions of Microsoft Excel and most other spreadsheet applications. It does not include any macros or visual basic coding. Business Valuation is used by both individual business owners and advisers. Q: I downloaded a current version of the excel business valuation model however even with inputting my email and registration code the download is not allowing me to use the software.
A: Attached is a zip file with version 60 files to match your registration. Save to your pc and open the excel file. This is also available at https://bizpep.com/superseded.html . We have recently released a new version which uses a different license process (this is the current version). Can you tell me what link you used to make your purchase and I will investigate the purchase/version issue?
