Q: I downloaded the 7-day demo version of SiteMap XML. I just tested out the dynamic site map generator of SiteMap XML under Sitemaps in Google Webmaster Central (GWC). GWC is coming back with a result of Web Pages: 945 submitted. However, wehave more than 3,000 web pages, so that's not right. Also GWC is warning that there are pages included in robots.txt in the site map. I definitely do not want those spidered, so how do I make sure they are not? Does inclusion in the Site Map mean they are automatically included? The principle reason I am interested in this software is I want Google to be able to find keywords in XML data on dynamic pages using Adobe Spry. Right now, with the test sitemap I just uploaded, it does not. I'd need to be assured these problems could be resolved before purchasing this software.
A: Possibly because you have not set the correct Include URLs with characters to suit your site or page are not linked with a href tag? The urls included in the site map are determined by the links and settings used, only linked urls that match the Include URLs with pattern will be included. In Dynamic mode the number of pages extracted is also impacted by the depth and limit values set. Sitemap XML does not use the robots.txt file so if you want to exclude certain urls use the Exclude URL's with pattern to exclude them. The dynamic map is the same as the static in the way it runs so as recommended in the help file run your settings in static mode to test. This returns info on the numbe of links time etc. If the static works, the dynamic with the same settings will work also. The Help file https://bizpep.com/sitemapxml/ provides details. If you continue to have difficulty let me know your urls and the settings (send me a copy of your dynamic file as an email attachement) you are using and what is missing and I will have a look for you.
