Q: Got the software to create the php sitemap but am still unable to publish to xml. Grateful for your guidance, please.

A: Google SiteMap, RSS SiteMap and Sitemaps Protocol all return XML structured sitemaps. You select them by simply clicking the radio button for the desired format on the Input section. If you are having difficulty first run as a static sitemap to verify the site structure is not broken.
