Q: Is SiteMap XML only for 5000 pages or links? Could SiteMap XML be for 50000 pages or links?

A: 5000 pages is the recommended maximum size. This is due to the time required to process. The more pages the slower the sitemap generatation. If you are running SiteMap XML on your server you can adjust the maximum above 5000 (to anything you like) and it will run OK. Just be sure that the processing time does not exceed the server time out period.
